David Fincher’s next film is reportedly in the can meaning its ‘early 2023’ release window is still on the cards.
Happy news for David Fincher fans this morning: production on his next film,
The Killer has officially wrapped. With Fincher’s notoriously perfectionist nature, it’s a wonder that he’s able to bring films in on time but that certainly appears to be the case with
The Killer which still looks likely to make its pencilled-in release slate of early 2023. That will mean a gap of just over two years since his last film,
Mank was released on Netflix.
Considering the space between Fincher’s previous two films,
Mank and
Gone Girl, was six years (appreciating he was doing TV projects in that time,) that’s good news for film fans. That’s not the first time we’ve seen such a prolonged space in Fincher’s career, so if his deal with Netflix (which is where
The Killer will release) seems to allow him to be a more prolific filmmaker, we’re certainly not complaining.
The Killer shot in Paris and featured Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton.
Mank Oscar-winning cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt reunited with Fincher to lens the film, whilst the director will also collaborated again with his
Seven scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. The story is adapted from Alexis Nolent’s graphic novel of the same name about the life of an unnamed assassin. We’ll bring you more details on this one, including a release date, as we hear them but it might be some time yet.
