David Fincher’s The Killer filming this autumn for Netflix

In an uncharacteristically quick turnaround for David Fincher between films, he starts shooting his next shortly. Of all of the goodness that Netflix brings into our lives, there are lots of arguments against the omni-present nature of the streaming giant as well. If you’re a glass half-full person though, here’s another reason to be cheery: David Fincher has set his next picture with Netflix and it seems like it will be with us relatively soon. By ‘relatively soon’, we are of course referring to Fincher’s notorious habit of leaving huge gaps between his projects, sometimes due to his perfectionist nature, oftentimes because he won’t compromise his artistic vision and ends up unable to secure funding for the projects on his slate. The gap between Fincher’s last two films for example, Mank and Gone Girl, was six years (appreciating he was doing TV projects in that time)  and that’s not the first time we’ve seen such a prolonged space in Fincher’s career. So, if Fincher’s deal with Netflix (with whom he has a long-running association) seems to allow him to be more prolific, we’re certainly not complaining. Case in point: the project The Killer has been on Fincher’s wish-list for 14 years, with Paramount circling it for a while. Now though, the deal with Netflix means the director can finally get it to the (albeit, smaller) screen. Fincher’s next project then, is named The Killer, and is set to shoot in Paris this autumn. Michael Fassbender will reportedly star. Mank Oscar-winning cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt will reunite with Fincher to lens the film, whilst the director will also be collaborating again with his Seven scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. The story is adapted from Alexis Nolent’s graphic novel of the same name about the life of an unnamed assassin. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
