When composer Daniel Pemberton’s agent put out a full-page ad to celebrate his recent Oscar nomination, he probably didn’t expect this.
Daniel Pemberton has been one of the industry’s most celebrated composers in recent years, impressing hugely with his scores for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as Birds Of Prey (And the Fabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), Enola Holmes, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, and The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance.
Pemberton has rightly been recognised for his work this year, receiving an Oscar nod for the song ‘Hear My Voice’ along with artist, Celeste, for the soundtrack from The Trial Of The Chicago 7.
As is the custom with awards nominations, Pemberton’s agent put out a full page ad, celebrating Pemberton’s nomination. But this time, with a twist. Rather than put it in the trades, he elected to publish it somewhere Pemberton would actually read it, the great British bastion of comic book vulgarity, Viz.
It’s certainly a different approach, but then Pemberton’s work has been consistently brilliant over the past decade and frankly, we can’t think of a higher accolade than appearing in the pages of Viz (and that includes winning an Oscar)!
