Rising British star Damson Idris has scored a key role in Apple’s big-budget racing project produced by the Top Gun: Maverick team.
We’ve known for a good year now that Apple is producing one of the biggest projects in Hollywood: an untitled racing driver movie with some serious star power behind it. Brad Pitt is set to star, with
Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski in place to direct. What’s more, producing legend Jerry Bruckheimer is also on board, as well as racing icon Lewis Hamilton.
Seemingly every studio in Hollywood was interested in this project but Apple came out on top, and the film looks to be a key component of the studio’s move into theatrical distribution.
The project is believed to cost around $140m with “Pitt playing a retired racing legend who mentors a younger driver and takes his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.” It looks like we know now who that younger driver will be, with reports emerging that British actor Damson Idris has been cast in the film opposite Pitt. Idris is best known for FX US television show
Snowfall, as well as the acclaimed British indie picture,
Farming.
Starring opposite Pitt in a role of this magnitude will certainly turbocharge Idris’ career, and we’re keen to see how he fares having been critically appreciated in everything he’s done so far. On a slightly different footing, it’s also exciting that wider casting news is beginning to emerge as the project begins to come together. We’ll be waiting for some time for this one, but at least we’re starting to hear some nuggets of news for it. We’ll bring you more as we hear it.
