The Lost Daughter actor Dakota Johnson might be playing a superhero in Sonyās upcoming Madame Web Marvel film.
Deadline reports that Sony is looking to expand its universe of Marvel films after the success of
Spider Man: No Way Home. Dakota Johnson is rumoured to be in talks to be a part of the upcoming
Madame Web film, and would be the franchiseās first female superhero.
British director S.J. Clarkson is set to helm the project, with the screenplay written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The two often write films together, and are credited on
Morbius, Gods Of Egypt, and Vin Dieselās
The Last Witch Hunter.
In Marvel comics, Madame Web is an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, a medical condition that leads to her being attached to a life support system that resembles a spiderās web. She often aids other superheroes through her powers of precognition.
This character may sound like an odd choice for Johnson, and for the lead character in a superhero film, and for this reason a
Madame Web film is not set in stone. The project could easily change focus to another female character from Sonyās roster.
Johnson has had a busy year. She starred opposite Olivia Coleman in the critically acclaimed
The Lost Daughter, as well as in Sundance feature
Cha Cha Real Smooth. The latter was bought by Apple for a record $15 million. She will next appear in
Persuasion, an adaptation of a Jane Austen novel which is expected to premiere on Netflix this year.
More news on
Madame Web as we hear it.
