Sometimes I Think About Dying has secured distribution following its Sundance debut, will release later this year.
Daisy Ridley – pictured here in Chaos Walking – made plenty of headlines the other week when it was revealed that she’ll be returning as Rey in a follow-up Star Wars movie to the franchise’s sequel trilogy. Since the release of the first of those films, The Force Awakens in 2015, Ridley has faced a quandary that the face of any franchise has struggled with: how do you separate yourself from a role that the entire world associates you with?
Ridley has chosen to venture into smaller, dramatic performances and her turn in Sometimes I Think About Dying came in for praise as the film premiered at Sundance. It has now been revealed that the film, which has been directed by Rachel Lambert, has been picked up for distribution by arthouse label, Oscilloscope and will get a traditional theatrical release this year, in the US at least.
Here in the UK, that means we’ll likely to get to see the film by the end of this year too, but whether that’s in cinemas or via a streaming platform remains to be seen.
Dave Merheje, Parvesh Cheena, Marcia Debonis, Meg Stalter, and Brittany O’Grady also feature and the film, which centres around Ridley’s character, Fran, ‘who is lost on the dreary Oregon coast and finds solace in her cubicle, listening to the constant hum of officemates and occasionally daydreaming to pass the time. She is ghosting through life, unable to pop her bubble of isolation, when a friendly new coworker, Robert, persistently tries to connect with her.’
