The UK release of Cyrano, a musical drama starring Peter Dinklage, has been moved from 14th January to 25th February.
Due to the ongoing surge in cases of the omicron Covid-19 variant, Universal has decided to delay the UK release of Cyrano. The period-set musical starring Peter Dinklage was due for release just next week, on 14th January. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will now be out in cinemas on 25th February instead.
Cyrano is a romantic story of how the titular character falls head-over-heels in love with Roxanne, though his affections are not reciprocated. She is in love with another man – Christian. Though Cyrano loses hope of gaining Roxanne’s love for himself, he writes love letters to her on Christian’s behalf using his skills as a talented poet.
The musical is directed by Joe Wright, who is well known for his period pieces Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina. Erica Schmidt, the writer of the 2018 play, returned to write the screenplay for the film.
Sadly, Cyrano is not the first movie to be delayed due to rising Covid cases. It follows Operation Mincemeat, a Colin Firth-lead drama that was set to come out in February, only to be moved to 22nd April. Sony have also pulled Morbius from its January slot, deciding to push it back to 1st April.
