The troubled adaptation of the popular looter-shooter video game Borderlands reportedly no longer features Craig Mazinās name.
Eli Rothās
Borderlands movie is a project that was announced all the way back in 2020, and its ongoing journey to the screen has seemingly not been a smooth one. Lionsgate reportedly ordered reshoots for last summer which were said to include changes penned by
The Hunger Gamesā Gary Ross. However, even that additional footage didnāt seem to satisfy the studio, as more reshoots were announced at the beginning of this year. Director, Eli Roth was busy working on the upcoming
Thanksgiving, so
Terminator: Dark Fate helmer,
Tim Miller was said to have been drafted in to oversee things.
With two sets of reshoots now seeming to have taken place, it looks like the filmās original co-writer, Craig Mazin might have decided the project no longer resembles his original script as
some sharp-eyed Reddit users have discovered that his name has been removed from the filmās WGA credits page, having seemingly been replaced by the pseudonym of āJoe Crombieā.
Mazin is of course riding very high at the moment of the back of two smash critical successes on the small screen, in the form of
Chernobyl and
The Last of Us, also a game-to-live action drama adaptation. As for
Borderlands, the project stars ‘Cate Blanchett, who plays Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past who reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Atlas (Edgar Ramirez). She forms an alliance with an unexpected team – former elite mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt) and her rhetorically challenged protector Krieg (Florian Munteanu), the persistent wiseass robot Claptrap (Jack Black), and mentally unstable scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis).
If the film can recreate the madcap spirit of the games we’ll be in for a good time, especially with the talent involved. However, itās been anything but plain sailing up until this point and with it looking like Mazin has demanded his name be removed from the film, itās another sign that all is not well. We havenāt seen a frame of footage from
Borderlands yet, nor do we have a release window but weāll let you know when we hear more.
