Comedian Joe Wilkinson takes on his first leading film role in upcoming comedy A Family Affair: more here.
Joe Wilkinson is best known for his surreal supporting characters, whether it’s the acerbic postman in Ricky Gervais’ Afterlife, unsettling neighbour Dan in Him And Her, and as another postman in Brett Goldstein’s and Jon Drever’s wonderful superhero satire Superbob.
Now, it’s his turn to take the lead. A Family Affair follows couple Edward and Helen, as they attempt to keep their spiritual retreat business afloat. However, when the bank threatens to foreclose, a public auction of the house threatens to ruin not only their business, but also the fortieth wedding anniversary of her parents Margaret and Walter. Meanwhile, Edward’s father Albert arrives with a much younger date. All this conspires to drive everybody over the edge as tensions escalate to breaking point.
Edward and Helen are played by Wilkinson and Laura Aikman, respectively, while Jane Asher and Michael Maxwell are Margaret and Walter. Rounding out the cast is David Sherwood as Albert and Jazzara Jaslyn as his date.
Warren Fischer makes his feature directorial debut with the film, for which he also wrote the script.
Fischer said of the film that “”In South Africa, we’ve all grown up on British comedy – John Cleese, Monty Python and Rowan Atkinson were all inspirations, it’s very much a British farce. I would compare it to Death At A Funeral and tonally, it’s similar to The White Lotus.”
A release date has not yet been set, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
