Fewer than 50 cinemas will be screening Juror #2, it’s reported, with no plans for the film’s release to widen and ‘no marketing support’ to push it.
Here’s a report which if accurate, is more than a little odd. According to Empire City(via World of Reel), the US release of Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 is going to be little more than a token push from Warner Bros. According to the report, the film is only going to open on 50 screens across the country, with no marketing support and no plans to widen the release should it prove to be popular with audiences.
We’ll be watching closely to see if this indeed the case when the film launches on 1st November in America, but if so, it’s a move that isn’t going to win Warner Bros any new friends. At 94 years old, Eastwood isn’t going to have too many films left in him (although he is reported to be working on his next one already) and Juror #2 could mark the final film in a directing partnership with the studio that stretches all the way back to 1975.
It’s not like there’s no audience interest for Juror #2 either. Reaction to the trailer (which was released at the start of this month) has been positive, and the film’s narrative setup is intriguing indeed. There’s also a great cast, which includes Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Kiefer Sutherland and Zoey Deutch.
When the trailer reeased, we did wonder whether Warner Bros’ huge autumn schedule (which included Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Joker: Folie A Deux) might mean that its marketing department might be stretched when it came to this film’s release. However, we didn’t imagine that the result might be ‘no marketing support’ whatsoever.
We’re hoping that this isn’t the case, but we’ll bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
