For his first screen project since Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall is adapting Agatha Christieās The Seven Dials Mystery for Netflix. More here.
Since he left behind the showrunner chair on Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall has done a theatre production, but not committed to another screen project. Well, until now. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Chibnall was steering an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel The Seven Dials Mystery, and a bit more on that has now come to light.
Chris Chibnall has written the script for the production, which is being backed by Netflix. Chris Sweeney is directing, and the plan is to get the show in front of the cameras this summer. The story is set in a stately home, so it’s a fair bet that this is going to shoot in a similar property in the British countryside.
Chris Chibnall is also listed amongst the executive producers of The Seven Dials Mystery, along with Suzanne Mackie of Orchid Pictures. Casting? Well, no word on that yet, but given the size of the character list, a few agents should be getting calls over the coming weeks.
The synopsis, as per the Agatha Christie novel, reads as follows…
Gerry Wade had proved himself to be a champion sleeper; so the other house guests decided to play a practical joke on him. Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6.30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank had backfired with tragic consequences.
For Jimmy Thesiger in particular, the words ‘Seven Dials’ were to take on a new and chilling significance…
Presumably, if this goes down well, further adaptations may well be on the cards. We’re jumping ahead of ourselves though. For the minute, the likelihood is that The Seven Dials Mystery will be on the Netflix service in 2025. As and when we hear more, we’ll let you know.
