Heavyweight talent has already boarded the project, as Cher becomes the latest musical icon to get the biopic treatment.

Bohemian Rhapsody to the less celebrated
Stardust, the musical biopic is one of the most in-vogue trends in Hollywood right now. The former film enjoyed huge success at the box office and beyond, snagging a couple of Oscars into the bargain as well.
As such, we’ve seen something of a rush to move other projects of a similar ilk into production. Cher, celebrating her 75th birthday, has announced that her life and career will be the next musical biopic to get the big screen treatment, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
Universal isn’t taking this one lightly either: it’s hired Eric Roth to write the screenplay. Roth, along with winning an Oscar for
Forrest Gump in 1994, has also just written
Flowers Of The Killer Moon for Martin Scorsese, along with co-scripting the upcoming adaptation of
Dune. The studio has also bought in some of the key producers from the
Mamma Mia! films too. Cher made a memorable cameo in the second of those, of course.
How much of Cher’s long career will be covered, isn’t yet known, but it’s a safe bet that the 1960s and 70s will be a key focus when she endured a tumultuous personal and professional relationship with Sonny Bono. We’ll bring you more news on this one as we hear it.
