Channing Tatum chats about a redo of the beloved romantic drama Ghost, whilst also discussing his Gambit film as well.
Channing Tatumās production company currently has the rights to remake the popular 1990 romantic fantasy flick
Ghost and plans to remake the film are bubbling along. Tatum is out doing press for his
Magic Mike swan song, the upcoming
Magic Mike’s Last Dance and heās been dropping some interesting tidbits along the way.
Firstly, that
Ghost remake: the original film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg was a sensation when it released in 1990, following up on the sizeable cachet that Swayze had built as a romantic leading man in 1987ās
Dirty Dancing.
Tatum has said that his production company, Free Association has the rights and are āexploringā a remake that will reconsider some of the āproblematic stereotypesā contained within the first film. Presumably a reference to Whoopi Goldbergās character, a charlatan medium who develops the power to communicate with Swayzeās Sam, even though he is dead.
Tatum also addressed his long-running efforts to get a
Gambit movie off the ground, saying that Disneyās purchase of Fox had killed any chances of it happening.
“It got swallowed up into Disney by way of Marvel when they bought Fox, and ultimately I just think that the tone of the movie we wanted to make was very far from what they wanted to do — or, you know, maybe they’re waiting to see how they do it with us or without us,” Tatum said. “We call every once in a while, but we’ve got to spiritually, emotionally, kind of mentally let it go.”
