The book Out Of My Mind follows a girl with cerebral palsy as she navigates high school: and casting for the film version is in.
Disney+ have confirmed the cast for their upcoming adaptation of
Out Of My Mind.
The plot follows Melody Brooks, a girl with cerebral palsy. Melody has a quick wit and a sharp mind, but due to her being non-verbal and using a wheelchair, she is not given the same academic opportunities as her classmates. However, when Katherine, a young educator notices her student’s untapped potential, she encourages Melody to participate in mainstream education, where greater successes – and challenges – await.
Phoebe-Rae Taylor headlines the film as Melody, with Rosemarie DeWitt and Luke Kirby as her parents. Rounding out the cast are Judith Light, Michael Chernus and Courtney Taylor
Amber Sealey directs, while Daniel Stiepleman adapted the screenplay from the novel of the same name by Sharon Draper.
The production team includes multiple people from the cerebral palsy and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication device) community, who have been involved from the beginning of the development process.
No release date has yet been announced, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
