Brothers boasts a heavyweight cast and a fun premise and as such, Amazon has reportedly snagged the worldwide rights for the project.
Another day at Cannes and another deal hits the headlines. Todayās deal of the day is Brothers, a project that has already been completed and hit the festival ready for purchase.
Made by Legendary Pictures, the action comedy didnāt have to wait too long to find a buyer as Amazon MGM moved quickly to snap the project up, securing worldwide rights to the film.
The cast for this one looks promising. Weāve got Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin headlining the film as the titular brothers. The film ātells the story of a reformed criminal (Brolin) whose attempt at going straight is derailed when he reunites with his sanity-testing twin brother (Dinklage) on a road trip for the score of a lifetime. Dodging bullets, the law and an overbearing mother along the way, they must heal their severed family bond before they end up killing each other.ā
The āoverbearing motherā is played by the mighty Glenn Close and there are also turns from Brendan Fraser and the late M. Emmett Walsh in one of his final appearances. Zolaās Taylour Paige and Yellowstone's Jennifer Landon also feature.
Thatās quite the cast and promises some entertaining comic interplay, something that director Max Barbakow proved adept at in his 2020 film, Palm Springs. That time loop comedy was a fun watch and now, Barbakow has been given the chance to work with a star-studded cast and weāre keen to see how this all plays out.
In what potentially could be more good news itās been confirmed from the outset that the movie will be getting some kind of theatrical release too, although the phrase āselect cinemasā is used. That means that as of yet thereās no confirmation regarding which territories will get to screen the film in cinemas and which might not. Still, itās something.
Those āselectā cinemas will premiere the film on October 1st. The film will hit Amazonās Prime Video streaming service on 17th October. When we do hear more about the filmās theatrical run, weāll certainly let you know.
