Prolific film director Muriel Box is being celebrated with a season at the BFI, and several of her films are also being released on Blu-ray.
Muriel Box is the most prolific female film director to come out of Britain. Helming thirteen features and several shorts, she was also the first woman in history to win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for The Seventh Veil, which she wrote with her husband Sydney in 1945.
She penned dozens more screenplays over the course of her career, which is set to be celebrated with a season of talks and screenings at the BFI Southbank, running from the 2nd to the 23rd May. You can find out more details here.
Studiocanal are also rereleasing three of her comedies on the 29th May, both on DVD and, for the first time, Blu-ray. The films are are The Passionate Stranger and The Truth About Women (both released in 1957), plus her final feature, Rattle Of A Simple Man (1964), starring Harry H Corbett.
The Blu-rays will come with an array of extras, including a selection of behind the scenes photo galleries and a serialised, three-part new documentary about Box’s life and career.
