Brendan Gleeson is the latest actor to join Amazon and MGM’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir series. More on Spider-Noir below.

Spider-Noir, the Spider-Verse spin-off series, is taking shape at Amazon. After Nicolas Cage was rumoured to be reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in a new series, it was finally confirmed in May that Cage was on board and the series was in development.

Variety now brings us news that Brendan Gleeson has joined the series. Details about his role are being kept tightly under wraps but Gleeson joins not only Cage and recently announced Lamorne Morris in the cast as Robbie Robertson.

Another Variety article describes Robertson as “Driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York. He takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”

The series is heading to Prime Video in the UK, while MGM+ has the series in the US. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are acting as showrunners and will executive produce alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes and also executive produce the series.

While Cage only provided the voice for Spider-Man Noir in Into The Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir will be a live-action series. According to the show’s synopsis, Spider-Noir “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

Prime Video and MGM haven’t given us a release window for the series yet, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated on that.
