A delayed 1970s period drama from Paul Thomas Anderson is now looking to begin production shortly and now has a major name attached.
Any Paul Thomas Anderson project is bound to attract interest. The helmer of
Magnolia and
The Master has forged a reputation not only for rich, powerful dramas, but for also coaxing incredible performances from his actors. With shutdowns affecting his latest project, a 1970s coming of age tale set in the San Fernando Valley, (a fertile setting for Anderson, who has based several of his films there), it seems like quite a while since we’ve heard anything about this one.
Wheels though, are certainly beginning to turn and the news, via
The Hollywood Reporter, that Bradley Cooper is likely to star will surely push things along further. The project itself has now moved from Focus Features to MGM and is looking to shoot in the autumn, though like everything else at the moment, that date could be delayed given the problems California is having controlling the spread of Covid-19.
More news as we have it on this one (not least when we learn what it’s actually going to be called). In the meantime, Bradley Cooper is set to continue production on Guillermo del Toro’s
Nightmare Alley.
