Booksmart arrives on DVD at the end of this month in Britain – but not Blu-ray.
We’ve been asked this a few times over the past few days, off the back of our look at the increasing number of films that aren’t getting a Blu-ray release in the UK. We’ve talked about why that is here.
Also, though, it turns out that films such as Eighth Grade and Blinded By The Light – previously assumed to only be getting a DVD and digital download release in the UK – are arriving on the Blu-ray format via HMV exclusively.
Sadly, though, that’s not going to be the cast with Olivia Wilde’s brilliant directorial debut, Booksmart.
The film is coming to DVD at least, with a release at the end of this very month (September 30th). But if you want a Blu-ray version, then you’re going to have to import it from the US, where the film was released on the format at the start of the month.
It’s sad that in an era where most of us have 1080p or 4K televisions, that a limited resolution DVD release is the only physical option for a growing subset of movies. The brilliant Booksmart, I’d suggest, deserves a far better fate than that.
