A very special horror bonanza – bringing together Blumhouse and Prime Video – will kick off with a double feature in October, it has been confirmed.
It’s busy times for Blumhouse. Fresh off the back of announcing a production partnership with Elisabeth Moss’ production company to make the planned Mrs. March, the production company has now also announced an ambitious, eight-movie slate in association with Amazon Prime. What’s more, the eight films form an anthology collection with the first four films dropping in the form of a pair of double features.
Coming this October, with the rest of the slate to debut throughout 2021, Welcome To The Blumhouse will feature a diverse range of horror-themed movies, just in time for Halloween.
The first two films be released have been confirmed as The Lie and Black Box. Veena Sud, helmer of 2016’s The Salton Sea, directs The Lie whilst Black Box marks Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr’s directorial feature debut.
For Blumhouse, the collaboration with Amazon marks another opportunity for Jason Blum’s company to diversify and take risks within the genre that it’s best known for. Perhaps more importantly, the production company seem to be using the Amazon deal to give a platform to a slew of new talent, several of them making their feature film directorial debuts.
Being able to give audiences more movies whilst generating more opportunities for new filmmakers seems like a positive outcome for all. The first two double features will debut in October. In the meantime, if you want more details on the respective films, check out Deadline’s story here.
