Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has continued production in Georgia after a break of almost two months.
Deadline confirms that production has resumed on
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, after it was shut down in November due to injuries sustained by star Letitia Wright. Wright plays Shuri, sister of the Marvel Cinematic Universeās Black Panther, TāChalla.
Letitia Wright was injured in August 2021 during an incident with a stunt rig. She was filming in Boston at the time. It was later revealed in a statement from Marvel Studiosā Kevin Feige, and producers Louis DāEsposito and Nate Moore, that her injuries were more severe than originally thought. Wright fractured her shoulder and also sustained a concussion, so in November production on
Wakanda Forever was suspended.
However, it looks like things are up and running again now, as the Marvel sequel is listed as one of the projects in production on the Georgia Film Office website, which keeps a database of all film and television projects currently filming in the US state.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, filming was meant to resume last week, but was delayed by several cast and crew members testing positive for Covid-19. Among them was Wrightās co-star Lupita Nyongāo. As a result, she had to miss part of the press tour for her film
The 355, in which she co-stars alongside Jessica Chastain and Penélope Cruz.
After the sad passing of
Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, it is thought that Letitia Wright will play a much bigger role in the Ryan Coogler-directed sequel. The fact that production had to halt completely while she was out-of-action would certainly back this up.
Filming on
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to wrap in about four weeksā time. The release date for the film was previously expected to be 8th July this year, but is now 11th November. The move was made before the pause in production, which is not expected to have any adverse affects on the filmās release.
More news as we hear it.
