A sequel to one of Netflix’s biggest hits, Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock, is reportedly in the works at the streaming giant.
It’s a film regarded as one of Netflix’s most successful home-grown productions to date, notably notching up tens of millions of viewers within days of being added to the streaming service. And now there’s talk of a follow-up of sorts to
Bird Box.
The original movie starred Sandra Bullock, and was based on a book penned by Josh Malerman. The news of another feature has come to light courtesy of an interview with Malerman too. His new novel
, Malorie, is set for release in the next few weeks, and this is a book that’s a follow-up to the
Bird Box story, picking things up a decade later. Said book has the interest of Netflix, which is looking to turn it into a movie.
In a chat with
Inverse, Malerman said of the next film that “I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development. Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game”.
Not a sausage from Netflix on this as of yet of course. Likewise, whether Sandra Bullock would return to star and Susanne Bier to direct is not yet known. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
