Gene Roddenberry’s extraordinary life will be covered in a new film, along of course with the story of Star Trek's creation.
Whilst you likely already know this, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry led quite the life. Although he happened to create one of the most enduring science fiction franchises of all time, there were plenty of other major moments in his life too. He survived not one, but two plane crashes, was an army air force pilot in World War II, flew for Pan Am, worked for the LAPD and eventually as a TV writer.
Now his remarkable story is going to be bought to the screen in the form of a biopic film, produced by Roddenberry Entertainment. That’s a company headed up by Rod Roddenberry, the late Star Trek creator’s son. Gene Roddenberry died back in 1986, just as Star Trek: The Next Generation was set to launch and take Roddenberry’s creation to new heights of popularity.
No director or casting have been announced yet, but his son did release a brief statement on what would have been Roddenberry’s 100th birthday, stating: “Gene lead a remarkable life. He was an incredibly complex, compelling man, whose work changed the face of television, and whose ideas changed the world. It’s time to share Gene’s story with audiences everywhere.”
Certainly, Roddenberry’s commitment to a message of tolerance and diversity in the original Star Trek series is a message that will never go out of fashion. We’ll let you know more on this one as we hear it.
