With Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F imminent, Eddie Murphy admits that heās more than open to Beverly Hills Cop 5 happening.
We’re about a week and change away from the release of the fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop saga, a new movie that’s going by the name of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It returns Eddie Murphy to one of his most famous roles, Axel Foley, and it’s come to life after years of ummng and aahing from Paramount Pictures over the project.
In the end, it basically handed the film over to Netflix, and it’s one of the streaming giant’s biggest blockbusters of the year.
Eddie Murphy is out promoting the new film, and perhaps inevitably, he’s been asked about a possible Beverly Hills Cop 5, and whether he’d be interested in making it. Would he like to? “I hope so because this movie turned out so good”, he admitted to Today (the American version, not the BBC Radio Four breakfast programme), adding “especially if you grew up watching the movie, then you’ll really, really love this new picture”.
Heās been musing about the first film too, and reflecting that the 1984 original saw him take the sole lead in a movie for the first time. The character is “the everyman”, he told the outlet. “He’s not a superhero or supercop. He’s the everyman who rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like him. And, more than anything, he’s funny”.
Now in his 60s, Eddie Murphy is clearly more than open to more of these, then. It’s the second of his famous roles he’s belatedly revisited, after the middling Coming 2 America sequel that popped along a few years ago. That proved a bit damp after the long wait for it, and hopefully, things work out a lot better with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
More as we hear it.
