Production on the new Avatar films is expected to start again this month, as James Cameron and producer Jon Landau arrive back in New Zealand.
The first big movie to get back up and running again as the world comes out of lockdown very slowly looks like being Avatar 2. Well, that and the other three Avatar sequels that writer/director James Cameron is shooting at the same time.
The movies had been filming in New Zealand before lockdown began, but shut down back in March. However, New Zealand has been one of the most successful countries in the world at dealing with Coronavirus, and filmed productions began to spring back last month.
Now, producer Jon Landau has arrived back with Cameron in New Zealand following a flight from Los Angeles. The pair are now quarantined for 14 days in line with New Zealand’s strict guidance.
What this points to though is that the Avatar films will be back in production by the end of the month, and with just a small amount of live action work left to do on the first sequel, the end of 2021 release date is looking like it’ll be unaffected.
Obviously things can change, but for the minute, Avatar 2 is back on.
