Action movie icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning for his first proper film outing since 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t done with action movies just yet. Despite clocking in at 75 years old, Deadline has revealed the action legend will be returning to the silver screen in Breakout, a jailbreak action thriller from Scott Waugh, helmer of the upcoming The Expendables 4.
The film has been announced ahead of next month’s Cannes Film Festival where it is expected to go to market. Here’s a synopsis for the film:
“Schwarzenegger will lead Breakout as a man named Terry Reynolds, who is forced to make the titular jailbreak in order to save his stepson. When his stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country, Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.”
Schwarzenegger hasn’t graced cinema screens since 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate saw him return to one of his most iconic roles. The film didn’t fare too well and some four years later, there doesn’t seem to be much appetite for another film in the series. Still, Schwarzenegger doesn’t appear to be ready to retire yet. He’s done some TV work and will be hopefully returning to cinema screens should Breakout prove to be a popular project at Cannes. We’ll let you know more as we hear it.
