Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will be available to buy and rent next week with a 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD release confirmed for March.
James Wan’s fishy superhero sequel Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is available to buy and rent digitally 5th February.
However, you’ll have to wait until March if you’re keen on owning the film on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD. Those go on sale 18th March and you can conveniently pre-order your preferred format here.
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has proved to be a bit of a dud for Warner Bros. The first film, which was released in 2018, grossed over a billion dollars and even cold-hearted critics seemed to enjoy Wan’s colourful under-the-sea adventure.
The sequel, however, has been plagued by controversy after controversy. There were reports of disastrous test screenings, multiple reshoots and Amber Heard’s role was reportedly scaled down considerably (as was Dolph Lundgrenās) after her high-profile court case against ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is most likely the final time we see Jason Momoa’s titular superhero. James Gunn is currently busy rearranging the DC universe and it’s not looking good for Aquaman, especially as the sequel only grossed $412 million worldwide against a reported budget of $215 million. I’m terrible at maths, but that doesn’t seem very profitable.
We had this to say about the film back in December: “There’s a great superhero film somewhere in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, but it’s lost in a sea of mediocrity. For what it’s worth, I didn’t find the film to be quite the disaster I was fearing from the lack of marketing and the oddly timed embargo, but I still can’t say in good conscience that this is a decent film. It’s about as generic as they come, and mostly settles for repeating a lot of the first flick’s tricks.”
I did appreciate Wanās visual look, so for what itās worth, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will probably look pretty glorious in 4K.
