Following Greyhound, Apple has snagged another Tom Hanks-fronted film for its Apple TV+ service: more details here.
Apple, it seems, is keen to be in the Tom Hanks business. After snapping up his WWII-era drama Greyhound, for its streaming platform, the company have now acquired another Hanks project in the form of Finch, a sci-fi drama that Universal has sold to Apple following delays in the release schedule caused by the pandemic.
Directed by Game Of Thrones’ Miguel Sapochnik, the film follows ‘a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event who wants to ensure his beloved dog, Goodyear, will be cared for after he is gone. He creates a robot (Caleb Landry Jones) to watch over Goodyear when he no longer can, and the trio embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West, as Finch hopes to show the robot the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive.
Whilst Apple don’t release viewing numbers, its keenness to snap up this project suggests that Greyhound may have done good numbers, while Finch, which is produced by Amblin, certainly packs the potential to do the same with an interesting concept. We’ll let you know further details including the film’s release date when we hear them.
