Andrew Burnap cast in Disney’s live-action Snow White

Theatre actor Andrew Burnap has been cast in Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White – he will star opposite Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.  In 2020, Andrew Burnap won a Tony Award for his performance in a Broadway production of The Inheritance. Now, Disney has cast him as the male lead in their live-action remake of Snow White. Deadline reports that the role will not be the Prince or the Huntsman, instead he will be playing an entirely new character. We know a fair bit about the remake so far. Burnap is joining West Side Story actor Rachel Zegler in the cast. With her playing Snow White, the role of the Evil Queen has gone to Gal Gadot. Gadot is incredibly busy at the moment, with remakes of Cleopatra and Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief in the works, as well as two Red Notice sequels. These films are landmarks in cinematic history (the former two of course, not Red Notice) and she seems determined to remake as may as possible. With Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs being the first ever animated feature film, it tracks that Gadot would be on board for a live-action remake. What we also know about the upcoming film is that it will be a musical. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will be penning some original songs, so it’s no wonder they wanted to cast a Broadway actor in one of the leading roles. The duo are known for writing the songs for the Oscar-nominated La La Land, and their song ‘City of Stars’ won the Oscar for Best Original Song. This isn’t the first time the tale of Snow White has been remade in live action. 2012 saw two such remakes battle against each other in cinemas. Both the Julia Roberts-starring Mirror, Mirror and Kristen Stewart-led Snow White And The Huntsman debuted to mixed reviews. Despite impressive castings for both films, neither could quite capture the magic of the original story. With Disney’s Snow White entering production in the UK this spring, perhaps a remake of the original animated film will fare much better.
