Ammonite is finally getting a proper UK cinema release

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan star in Ammonite, a film that seemed to have bypassed a UK cinema release – but not so. Well, here’s a bit of good news. After debuting at the London Film Festival last year, Francis Lee’s movie Ammonite was all set for a full UK cinema release. Then, well, things happened, and Lionsgate in the end – in order to qualify it for awards consideration – had to go for a premium video on demand release a few weeks ago. Now, though, Lionsgate has announced – and this is a surprise – that the film will make it to the big screen in the UK after all. It’s planning to release the movie in selected cinemas around the UK from May 17^th, the date that cinemas reopen around the country (well, indoor ones anyway). We’re not expecting it to be a huge release, but it sounds like it’s going to be something, especially for a film that in particular can use the audio capabilities of a well-set-up cinema particularly well.
