American Psycho is getting a sequel in the form of a comic book, and details of the project have landed here.
Mary Harron’s adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’
American Psycho, released in 2000, has come to be regarded ā eventually ā as something a modern classic. Featuring a star making turn from Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, and possibly the best use of Huey Lewis’ music in any film ever, the film still stands up today as both a wildly entertaining thriller as well as a harsh critique of 1980s society.
American Psycho 2 arrived in 2002, ostensibly a sequel but actually a screenplay called
The Girl Who Wouldnāt Die, which was hastily rewritten into a sequel after the success of
American Psycho. It was Mila Kunis’ first starring role.
The new comic book series, which will be released in four parts, will show a different perspective of Patrick Bateman’s killing spree, with a twist and “surprising connections to the past”, which will serve as a direct sequel to the original film.
The plot will follow “an all-new psychopath, as social media obsessed millennial Charlie (Charlene) Carruthers goes on a downward spiral filled with violence. Drug fueled partying leads to bloodshed as Charlie leaves a trail of bodies on her way to discovering the truth about her dark nature.” Below is some more art work”.
Comic book publisher Sumerian struck the deal for derivative rights with Pressman Films. The company says the deal included rights to use Bale’s likeness and that the pact was cleared with the original novelist Bret Easton Ellis.
The story will be written by Michael Calero (
Quested) with art by Piotr Kowalski (
The Witcher) and colour by Brad Simpson (
Kong of Skull Island).
American Psycho #1 will be released in October.
