Prime Video is producing its first Australian Amazon original film ā rom-com Five Blind Dates is set to start filming next month.

Variety reports.
The romantic comedy will be an exploration of Chinese culture and family dynamics. The plot focuses on a tea-shop owner who is told by a fortune teller that sheāll meet her soulmate within the next five dates she goes on. It was created and written by actor Shuang Hu, who appeared in
The Family Law and
Ronny Chieng: International Student, alongside Nathan Ramos-Park (from
As We Babble On and
Club Mickey Mouse).
Hu is also set to star in the movie, with more casting announcements to follow. Directing
Five Blind Dates is Shawn Seet, who has worked on
Storm Boy and TV series
Barons. Filming will begin next month in Townsville and Sydney, with Australian production company Goalpost Pictures Australia producing.

While visiting her family in Townsville for her sister’s engagement festivities, Hu’s character Lia finds herself at a comedically tumultuous family luncheon and is gifted an unwelcome prophecy that she will soon meet her suitor. Her family, unsure of Lia’s ability to discern a partner for herself, decides to set her up on five blind dates. Even though her current focus lies in saving her tea-shop—a legacy left to her from her grandmother—Lia reluctantly agrees to go on the dates.
