Amazon Studios has revealed the trailer for Air, the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed sports drama that is also the company’s first proper stab at going with across the theatrical landscape. According to reports, Amazon is looking to pus a wide theatrical release for Air, the so-called ‘Nike movie’ that charts the forming of the athletic company’s historic deal with basketball legend Michael Jordan.
The film will also enjoy a period of cinema exclusivity that most other film studios don’t allow their movies, and it’s getting a Super Bowl TV spot too. This bold strategy dwarfs Amazon’s previous releases with similar exclusivity windows such as Manchester By The Sea or The Big Sick.
Hopefully the film, which stars Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman sporting a statement wig and Affleck himself, can live up to the hype and persuade Amazon to give more of its films cinema releases.
