The price of Amazon Prime is to jump by 20%, as Amazon struggles on annual revenues of $469bn: more here.
Poor Amazon. The fiscally-challenged multinational online conglomerate must clearly be struggling, what with its clear commitment to paying the fair share of tax it should to the countries in which it operates. That, and finding $9bn to buy MGM. That sort of thing. As such, clearly facing have its Christmas party downgraded to a shonky pub on the corner, it’s decided to read the room of the cost of living crisis, and smack the price of its Prime service up by 20%.
In the UK, from September 15th 2022, the monthly price of Prime will move from £7.99 to £8.99. And the annual cost? That’s going from £79 to £95. Ouch.
Amazon does say in its defence that it hasn’t moved the price of the service since 2014, and added more things to it. Which is true. But then it’s also true that Amazon’s annual revenue was $469bn in 2021.
Netflix too recently raised its prices. That went down like a fart in a car as well. More as we hear it (on price rises, not on human gas).
