Concerns over the physical supply line for discs leads to Amazon removing big preorders from its site.
Yesterday, we ran a story about murmurings we’d been hearing that the supply chain for physical film media was being impacted – inevitably – by the current Coronavirus spread. That getting discs to the right places at the right time is already getting tricky.
It’s certainly starting to bite Amazon too, it seems, as large numbers of Blu-ray preorders have now been removed from its website in these particularly testing times. Films dues in the next week or so – such as Le Mans 66 – are seemingly unaffected. But anything much beyond that has had the ‘currently unavailable’ sign put up.
As such, the release of Knives Out at the end of this month is one you can no longer preorder, and major preorders such as 1917, Frozen 2, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Cats and Parasite are amongst those you’re no longer able to get your purchase in for.
Amazon had already warned of longer delivery times across its lines. Presumably, until the physical disc supply chain gets back to anywhere close to normal – appreciating it’s not top priority at the moment – the lack of preorders will continue.
