Paramount has sold the delayed Skydance action drama The Tomorrow War, following similar sales such as Coming 2 America and Without Remorse.
Amazon has acquired the rights to The Tomorrow War, an action drama ‘that takes place after time travellers come to the present day to tell mankind that in the future they are losing a global war against a deadly alien species’.
The synopsis continues: ‘The time travellers must recruit soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future to join the fight. Pratt plays high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Pratt), who is determined to save the world for his young daughter. He teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons).’
Paramount, who has sold off a good chunk of its slate over the last year with cinemas shut, has found an eager partner in Amazon. Its streaming service has already (or will soon) released several high-profile former Paramount titles on its streaming platform. Last month saw the release of Coming 2 America whilst the end of this moth will see Michael B Jordan’s action thriller, Without Remorse, debut on Amazon too.
The Tomorrow War originally shot in autumn of 2019 and was set to be released in late 2020. However, the global pandemic had something to say about that. The film was then set for a summer 2021 release, before being pulled from the schedule by Paramount, a sure sign that discussions with a streaming platform were underway.
The Tomorrow War looks to have maintained its July 2021 release date, but the film will debut on Amazon instead. We’ll bring you more news on this one, including the trailer, when it arrives.
