Five more classic Alfred Hitchcock films are coming to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format in the UK this November: more here.
For the third year running, Universal is digging into the back catalogue of director Alfred Hitchcock for a boxset of his films. More to the point, a boxset of his films that have all benefitted from 4K remasters.
Alfred Hitchcock: Classics Collection Vol 3 has been confirmed for UK 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release this November, and a further five of Hitchcock’s films are being bundled together.
This time around? We’re getting Rope, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Torn Curtain, Topaz and Frenzy. Furthermore, the packaging is boasting of hours of bonus features, including documentaries, photos and trailers. The specifics of what those bonus features are isnāt entirely clear at this moment, but previous sets have hardly sold us short in that department.
The making of Rope, in particular, is a fascinating one to delve into, given that it was shot and edited to look as thought it was filmed in a single take. Films that appear to take place in real-time are more common nowadays ā see Sam Mendesā 1917 ā but in 1948, it was truly innovative, ingenious stuff. Weād be a little disappointed if the Rope 4K disc doesnāt contain some material that explores how Hitchcock pulled off this technical feat.
The set comes with 4K discs and Blu-ray discs in the box (hence those extras are likely to be ported over from previous releases).
Alfred Hitchcock: Classics Collection Vol 3 has been earmarked for release on 6 November 2023, and is available to order now. You can find more information, and order yourself a copy, right here.
