Everything you wanted to know about the fiendish The Green Knight but were afraid to ask – in case he comes for you next, presumably.
If it feels like years since we had an amazing Arthurian adaptation that blended the dark fantasy elements of one of Britain’s richest mythologies, well, that’s because it probably is.
However, all of that looks set to change with the arrival of The Green Knight starring Dev Patel, set to be released by A24 in 2021 (and getting a UK release from EFD in early August). We’ve seen a couple of corking-looking trailers and we have a release this summer to look forward to.
That release window hints at the level of confidence A24 must have in the project to award it a prime summer release window. After all, this summer is awash with even more blockbusters than usual, so the distributor must feel it has something special on its hands to boldly award its non-franchise, non-superhero film a prime spot.
Still, A24 is taking no chances and its marketing campaign for the film continues to build up. Today brings us an interesting featurette that looks at the roots of The Green Knight myth as well as key characters from the tale, including King Arthur and Guinevere and the tale’s hero, Gawain, played by Dev Patel.
Ralph Ineson, who also appears in the film, narrates so prepare yourself for three minutes of brilliant sensory bombardment. By the time it’s over, you’ll be an expert in the lore of The Green Knight and can probably just go ahead and call yourself a professor of Arthurian literature, or something.
(That’s what the makeshift sign says that we’ve just stuck to our door after watching it.)
Enjoy!
