A24 is behind yet another interesting project with the announcement of The Governess, directed by The Last Black Man in San Francisco’s Joe Talbot.
A24 continue to fly the flag for interesting and individual projects, championing cinematic releases for directors with sensibilities beyond the mainstream. The studio has thus now announced that the director of
The Last Black Man In San Francisco, Joe Talbot, will be helming
The Governess. What’s more, the cast is shaping up to be mightily impressive too.
The film ‘follows a trio of rebellious governesses who push the boundaries of the house they work in. The governesses inspirit the boys in their care, provoke the imagination of the Bohemian couple that employs them, and give up their duties for erotic adventures.’
And what about that cast? A triumvirate of exciting actors are set to play the titular characters, with
The Worst Person In The World's Renate Reinsve,
Voyagers’ Lily-Rose Depp and
Squid Game's Hoyeon leading the performers.
Considering the calibre of the talent involved, and with the boundary-pushing nature of the concept,
The Governess has the potential to be another noteworthy film from a studio that’s celebrated for its craft in producing films that find an excellent balance between entertaining and challenging audiences.
The film is being is co-financed by the BBC and is set to shoot in Spain although we don’t yet know when production is set to begin. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
