Steve Martin and John Candy star in John Hughesā Planes, Trains & Automobiles ā and itās coming to 4K disc with some must-see extras.
A comedy classic of the 1980s – an overused phrase, but surely one that applies here – is heading to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format in the UK next month.
John Hughes’ sublime
Planes, Trains & Automobiles – starring Steve Martin and John Candy – had already been confirmed for 4K release in the US. Now though we get the announcement of a UK release as well, as well as some additional extra features that look terrific.
The film itself, if you’ve not had the considerable pleasure, sees Hughes and Candy trying to get home for Thanksgiving when the world doesn’t want to play ball. It’s a movie with some vintage sequences too, my personal favourite being one of the best ever Steve Martin meltdowns on screen.
Itās also fairly well known that a huge amount of footage was shot that was in turn never used. And this release is going to show us some of it. We’re promised over an hour of deleted and extended scenes that haven’t made it to a release before, and that’s arguably as big a selling point here as the 4K remaster the film has enjoyed.
The further special features are…
- Getting There is Half the Fun: The Story of Planes, Trains and Automobiles
- John Hughes: Life Moves Pretty Fast (2-Part Documentary):
- John Hughes: The Voice of a Generation
- Heartbreak and Triumph: The Legacy of John Hughes
- John Hughes for Adults
- A Tribute to John Candy
The disc goes on sale from November 21
