With The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent out in UK cinemas next week, it makes sense to feature a podcast with its own unbearable weight of massive talent, and one with a genuine passion for the one and only Nicolas Cage.
How does one reach ‘True Cage Nirvana’? Listen along to Cage Rage, hosted by Darryl Edge, to find out. Darryl is a lifelong Nicolas Cage fan and when he found himself made redundant during the start of the pandemic, he decided to take his Cage enthusiasm and turn that into a podcast.
When we say enthusiasm, the fascination with Cage isn’t just a flight of fancy for Darryl. Cage has a tendency to transcend acting; he’s become more than that. He’s become a poster-boy for “offbeat acting”, for “becoming a meme” and for generally “being weird”. Going from an Oscar winner in Leaving Las Vegas, to a huge action star in the late 90s with films like Con Air and Face/Off, to comic book adaptations like Ghost Rider and Kick Ass. Nicolas Cage is a chameleon, an actor’s actor. His renaissance is real, and it’s happening right now, with critically acclaimed performances in Pig and now The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. It’s like Darryl just knew from the start…
Darryl has a genuine affection for not just the films of Nicolas Cage, but of the enigmatic man himself. This is reflected in Cage Rage, a podcast that respects, affirms and celebrates Nicolas Cage, not just as the meme, but as a smart man who loves what he does and deserves all the accolades he gets. This also applies to Darryl, whose affection is infectious, and it makes Cage Rage addictive listening. It’s not the first time we’ve covered a Nicolas Cage podcast, but the great thing about Cage is that he inspires a community of Cage-casts, with regular collaborations between Cage Rage and other Cage-focused podcasts (including previous featured podcast Caged In!)
