Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo will be bringing their movie witterings to BBC Four, starting on Friday May 15th – details here.
It’s been a long, long, long time coming, but finally, the witterings of Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode are being united in a new television film programme. Well, not quite an entirely new one: it’s a sort-of television version of the hugely popular Kermode & Mayo’s Film Review programme on Radio Five Live/Five Live/Five Alive, known to its millions of listeners as Wittertainment.
As we reported last month, BBC Four has ordered six half-hour episodes of Kermode And Mayo’s Home Entertainment Service, a show described as a “weekly guide to the best (and worst) of streaming culture in the 21st century, across film and premium television”.
We’ve now discovered when the programme will start its run, too. BBC Four has scheduled the show for Friday nights, at 8.30pm. The first episode will be on Friday May 15th – so the end of next week.

Up for discussion this week are Netflix’s The Eddy, BBC’s Normal People (including a chat with director Lenny Abrahamson), Eliza Hittman’s Never Rarely Sometimes Always, streaming service MUBI’s feature documentary Romantic Comedy, and Terry Gilliam’s classic Twelve Monkeys.
Mark and Simon also reveal what the nation has been watching at home and round up the best (and worst) of the rest of streaming culture across movies and premium television.
The programme will be up on the BBC iPlayer service too, shortly after transmission. The series will run into June.
