Rian Johnson’s Poker Face has added Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes, Gaby Hoffmann and Kumail Nanjiani to its cast for season 2.
When Poker Face debuted in January 2023, it became an instant hit. Created by Rian Johnson and starring Natasha Lyonne, the 10-episode series was instantly likeable, quippy and just plain fun. A second series was quickly announced and we now have some exciting casting news to share.
Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes, Gaby Hoffmann and Kumail Nanjiani will all make appearances in Poker Face season 2 as reported by Variety. Their roles haven’t been specified yet, but if the second season follows the formula of the first season, they’ll probably be involved in a murder or two.
The series follows Lyonne’s Charlie Cale who has a nifty ability to tell when someone is lying. It comes particularly handy when Charlie goes on the run from a casino boss and somehow gets entangled in several murders on her journey.
Season 1 of Poker Face included appearances from stars such as Adrien Brody, Ron Perlman, Chloë Sevigny, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Stephanie Hsu, Clea DuVall and Hong Chau to name a few. If season 2 follows suit, we can expect a whole more casting news in the coming months.
Johnson will be back executive producing while Tony Tost takes over showrunning duties from Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, who are still on board as executive producers. Lyonne is set to direct the second episode of the new season.
Plot details are scarce at this point but seeing as the finale of season 1 found Charlie on the run again, we can expect her solving more crimes across America. Poker Face season 2 does not have a release window yet, but it will head to Peacock in the US while Sky has the rights in the UK.
