Naomi Scott’s pop star is followed by creepily smiling people in Parker Finn’s horror sequel. Watch the new Smile 2 trailer here.
UPDATE: September is finally here, which means that October and peak horror movie season is also almost here. To celebrate the new season, Paramount Pictures has just revealed a brand new trailer for Parker Finnās Smile 2. 2022ās Smile was one of the yearās surprise hits and an unexpectedly excellent scare fest with a deceivingly simple premise.
The new trailer shows Drew Barrymore, seemingly appearing as herself, hosting a chat show where Naomi Scottās pop star Skye is being interviewed. The new Smile 2 trailer also gives us a better understanding of the plot, including the fact that it looks like Skye might need to actually die to get rid of that pesky smiling demon. Oh dearā¦
Thereās also a brand new poster to go with the new trailer, both of which you can find below.
Our original story followsā¦
18th June, 2024: Parker Finn’s mental health horror Smile was one the big surprises of 2022. A thoroughly terrifying, fun, effective horror film with a devilishly simple premise. What if people killed themselves while smiling maniacally, right in front of you?
Smile was a huge success for Paramount, too, so a sequel was greenlit quickly and Smile 2 is now upon us.
Take a look at the first Smile 2 trailer below.
It looks like Smile 2 will repeat the first film’s gnarly horrors with Naomi Scott’s pop star Skye witnessing several creepy fans and friends smiling at her. We assume it might be quite difficult to tell when it’s just the usual stuff you witness as a pop star and when it’s a deadly curse that’s out to kill you.
Kyle Gallner will reprise his role as Joel in the sequel, but the trailer does seem to show Joel being hit by a car, so weāre going to presume he wonāt make it very far. Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Raúl Castillo and Dylan Gelula will also star in the film, which is heading to cinemas this October.
Here’s the synopsis: About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
Shortly after Smile debuted in cinemas in 2022, Finn chatted to The Hollywood Reporter about his plans for a sequel. The director promised the sequel, which wasnāt greenlit yet, would never repeat the first filmās scares. āI’d want to make sure that there’s a new, exciting, fresh way into it that the audience isn’t anticipating. I also want to find some new ways to scare them and unnerve them,ā he told the outlet.
After Smile 2, Parker Finn will focus his efforts on the Possession remake that he’s developing with Robert Pattinson.
Smile 2 is in cinemas 18th October.
