There’s more plotting in our future as HBO renews their Game Of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon for season 3.
House Of The Dragon season 2 is about to premiere on HBO (Sky if you’re in the UK), but the network is already looking ahead. They have officially renewed House Of The Dragon for season 3, so be prepared for more vicious plotting and double-crossing.
The news doesnāt come as a massive surprise. The first season of House Of The Dragon boasts the biggest premiere audience for HBO and according to Variety, the season averaged 29 million viewers per episode. That’s a lot of eyeballs.
Based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House Of The Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones and tracks the long, bloody history of the Targaryen family. Martin teased in December that he was already working on seasons 3 and 4 of the series, but this is the first official word that House Of The Dragon will continue past season 2.
“George, Ryan [Condal, showrunner], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season,” said HBO’s programming and drama series chief Francesca Orsi of the renewal.
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
No word on when we might see season 3, but given that there was a two-year gap between the first and second season and the production value is off the charts here, we’re probably looking at a similar wait.
