The original 1996 hit Twister is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray at last, to give your home cinema system a workout. More here.

We’re a few weeks away from the release of Twisters in worldwide cinemas, the follow-up to 1996’s hit movie about people running around after a lot of wind. All with a flying cow thrown in for good measure.

The original movie was a massive hit, but it’s also worth noting that on every format it’s landed on – DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD – it’s been a hefty home cinema workout. The audio for a start is a rollicking workout for a decent set of speakers, and it’s surprising that it’s taken a while for the movie to arrive on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format.

Still, it’s happening at last, even if you have to wait until Twisters has been released to get it. Twister – singular – is turning up on the 4K disc format in the UK from 14th October 2024.

You can find more information on the disc, and order yourself a copy, right here.

Thus far, it’s just the Steelbook edition that’s been announced, and we’d imagine that a more frugal version of the film will be made available this side of Christmas. Still, the 4K collector’s set comes with a new The Legacy Of Twister: Taken By The Wind featurette, along with features carried over from the previous release too.

Then there’s the posh packaging, which comes with a production notes booklet, lobby cards, and a double-sided poster.

The disc is available for preorder now. We’ll leave you for the minute with its synopsis…

Academy Award winner Helen Hunt stars as the leader of a rag-tag band of tornado chasers on a perilous quest to test a new sensor device. Bill Paxton plays her fellow scientist and estranged husband who unwittingly joins her crew on this meteorologically active day. Perhaps they can make amends and salvage their marriage, but only if they can survive–the twisters. State-of-the-art special effects stir up this gripping, smash-hit action-adventure directed by the master of action himself–Jan de Bont.
