It’s been revealed that Netflix has far fewer movies on its service than five years ago.
Netflix is a company notoriously shy about giving out exact numbers. How many films does it have on its service? How many people watch them? Oh, and can we have a complete A-Z list of all the films on the service too?
No we can’t is the answer to the latter. But still, Streaming Observer has done some research into just what’s happening with Netflix where movie’s are concerned. For it’s discovered that in the US, the catalogue of titles has dropped dramatically.
Back in March 2014, it reports, Netflix US was offering 6,494 films for streaming. Move forward five and a bit years, and the total is now 3,849 (as of the end of November).
There are reasons for this, of course. The company has switched its onus more towards television for a start. Then, when it comes to films, it’s put its investment more towards its own films, rather than buying up catalogues from other studios. It doesn’t help too that other studios are launching their own streaming services anyway, and directing their films there.
In the UK, Netflix has 3,710 films on the service, and the overall trend is towards fewer films.
Panic not, though. The firm has still found room for Adam Sandler in The Ridiculous Six. That’s still available, and thus we can all breathe easy…
