The Glen Powell-led movie Hit Man, which has picked up some strong festival buzz, will be heading to Netflix in a $20m deal.
In a late summer of slow-moving activity, one notable festival film that has remained without a purchaser has been Richard Linklater’s latest,
Hit Man. It was always just a matter of time before somebody picked up the movie given that the pedigree of its director, the strength of its reviews and the fact that it features

According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has acquired the movie for $20m, and there are plans to give it some kind of theatrical run before it debuts on the streaming platform.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on a true-crime article, the story follows a mild-mannered psychology professor (Powell) who also posed as an undercover hitman for the New Orleans police.
When he breaks protocol to help a desperate woman (Adria Arjona) trying to flee an abusive boyfriend, the character finds himself becoming one of his false personas – falling for the woman and flirting with turning into a criminal himself.’
The film being acquired by Netflix could be more good news for Powell. He’ll earn some cachet from leading a movie helmed by an admired independent director that will now be seen by far more eyeballs, given that it is debuting on Netflix. Last year he led the cast in
Devotion and featured prominently in the smash-hit
Top Gun: Maverick, whilst his pairing with Sidney Sweeney in the upcoming romantic comedy
Anybody but You is also anticipated by many.
