Christopher Nolan reportedly ‘in discussions’ to helm next Bond

Take it with a pinch of salt but the next 007 movie may yet be a Christopher Nolan film. We’ve been here before. This is very much an unconfirmed rumour but it’s a very exciting one. World of Reel is claiming that EON Productions producer Barbara Broccoli is ‘zeroing in’ on Christopher Nolan to launch the next era of 007, directing the next two films in the long-running series. The outlet has a decent track record when it comes to these kind of scoops so there could be something here. Nolan of course is a ‘free agent’ given that he is no longer affiliated with Warner Bros these days. His latest film, Oppenheimer was backed by Universal and given his cachet, he was able to secure a very handsome deal too. Universal no doubt will be laying out the red carpet and offering Nolan carte blanche should he choose to collaborate with the studio again, given the outstanding success that Oppenheimer has attracted. That creative freedom may well be the deciding point in the negotiations between Nolan and EON, and it’s something that’s quickly ended any hopes of Nolan doing a Bond film before. The report states that creative freedom is the main sticking point that’s preventing the deal from being done, along with the strikes and Nolan’s press schedule for Oppenheimer also slowing things down. Apparently though, Nolan wants complete creative control, something EON tends not to give filmmakers given that it has a well-established format for the 007 films. Danny Boyle, Denis Villeneuve, and Paul Greengrass are apparently in line too, but according to the report, Nolan is definitely the front-runner. It could all yet come to nothing but let’s play ‘what if?’ for a moment: would a Christopher Nolan 007 movie be the direction you’d like to see the series go in?
