Film studios are doubling down on AI technology, as several job advertisements for AI experts have been placed.
With no end in sight for either the actors or writers strikes, and in a move that could have been ripped directly from one of Charlie Brooker’s
Black Mirror scripts, Hollywood studios are turning to AI.
The shift to AI technology and, more worryingly, AI produced scripts, is one of the points of contention that lead to the current strike, along with the potential for the exploitation of an actor’s likeness.
This does not appear to have deterred companies like Netflix, Disney and Sony from going on the hunt for AI experts.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, several job advertisements have been placed by the aforementioned companies, ranging from AI Project Manager to an AI Ethics Expert, each with a hefty payday.
The Disney listing says that whoever gets hired will be “responsible for creating AI-enabled solutions for Disney+, Star+, and ESPN+,” and will use AI to “work on advanced personalisation efforts involving digital avatars.”
